HARRISBURG Pa. April 15 2010 Auditor General Jack Wagner today lauded the Department of General Services and Hildebrandt Learning Center LLC as well as his own Office of Support Services for renovations to the Auditor General Child Care Center located in the Capitol Complexs Finance Building. The renovations of the center include new paint and enhanced flooring known as Konecto flooring throughout the facility and updates to the restroom.
John F. Kennedy once said Children are the worlds most valuable resource and its best hope for the future and I could not agree with him more said Wagner who read a short story to the centers 14 preschool children during dedication ceremonies this afternoon. Thanks to DGS Hildebrandt my own staff and the National Association for the Education of Young Children these children will spend their days in a safer brighter learning environment.
The dedication of the renovated facility was held in conjunction with the celebration of the National Association for the Education of Young Childrens (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child. The center is accredited by the NAEYC and also has a Star Four designation from the Keystone Stars Program which is the highest accreditation possible from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.
The Auditor General Child Care Center was established in 1986 as the first work-site day care center in the Capitol Complex and has continuously provided quality affordable child care to commonwealth employees their families and the general public.
Though not directly affiliated with his department the center has been assisted by Auditor General Wagner through administrative and maintenance support as well as facility-related improvements throughout his tenure. Shortly after taking office in early 2005 Auditor General Wagner pledged to ensure that members of the general public or taxpayers could continue to enroll their children in the facility which is a policy unique among the day care centers in the Capitol Complex.
The center is overseen by the Auditor General Child Care Association a registered non-profit organization made up of the parents and legal guardians of children enrolled at the center. The association works with the Department of the Auditor General and Hildebrandt Learning Centers to provide the best possible learning environment for the 38 children (from infant to preschool) that regularly attend the program.
