Beginnings Academy has 180 students in attendance and is located at 501 NW Woodridge Drive. At the present time there are nine teachers, nine teacher assistants, a counselor, a speech therapist, a custodian and part-time sweeper provided by Lawton Public Schools. CrossRoads Head Start provides area supervisor - site director Deana Davis, a secretary, two family advocates, two cooks, a High Scope curriculum coordinator, health and nutrition coordinator, two speech therapists, a licensed LPC to work with students and their families, and three support assistants for students with special needs. Six grandparents also come on a daily basis and spend time in the classrooms working with students. CrossRoads provides bus transportation for those students with the most need whose parents would be unable to get them to school. Students receive a nutritional breakfast, lunch, and snack in a family style dining setting. The school has a library/media center where students can select books appropriate for their age. The library/media center is furnished with Hatch computers equipped with early childhood programs used twice a week by students. Two Hatch computers for students as well as a computer for each teacher to enter student data are in every classroom. An enclosed outside playground provides students with a variety of new equipment that invites young children to become both active and healthy. Students are provided many opportunities for enrichment through a variety of field trips in our community and programs arranged at the school. Each classroom is supplied with new furnishings appropriate for young students, High Scope curriculum, and a wide array of manipulatives. Lawton Public Schools provides each teacher a computer with internet and Chancery access.
