Child Development Center Description
Challenge Charter School will provide a sound educational environment grounded in the fundamental skills of a hands-on, science-oriented, academic core curriculum. The environment is structured to optimize each student's opportunities so that all students can acquire a first-class education that will prepare them to be successful in the lifelong learning process. Schools should be expected to create a structure that provides more consistency for students in person, place, and more time on task.
Smaller classes and a lower student-to-teacher ratio can help provide a classroom environment that encourages significant personal interaction thereby enabling teachers and students to become support groups. This helps develop stronger student/teacher relationships, and increased contact time, enabling teachers to assume a more prominent role in the lives of all their students. Daily, organizational skills are imbedded into the curricular delivery approach.
Moral values held in high esteem help provide for outstanding citizenship, experienced leaders, and a structured learning environment. Our curriculum includes moral values that have been recognized as essential by all cultures, independent of age or location. The school emphasizes the role of self-discipline, honesty, integrity, faith, work ethic, and other widely accepted moral values defined by our society as essential to the survival of our culture, thereby creating a more secure and positive civic responsibly in our students.
Students in grades 5th & 6th participate in school-to-work programs and projects that enable students to be part of a learning environment structured around real life work situations. In addition they do peer tutoring (older to younger, gifted to learning-disabled, experienced to less experienced). The basic rewards of this approach help students with: 1) Understanding and planning real life work projects; 2) developing team working skills, a must in todays economic culture; and, 3) helping to build self-esteem and confidence by accomplishing real life tasks.
