Pre School Description
Crescendo emergent curriculum comes from the developmental needs and interests of the children. We support the belief that curriculum planning should sustain themes that are relevant to and reflect the needs of children. Being patient, being real and truthful, and listening to all our children, is a gift that is given to us. This always has and always will be the Crescendo philosophy. We commit to finding ways for children to solve problems together and to evaluate themselves, exploring their ideas through art, sculpture, writing, dancing, music, pottery, painting and much more. Children learn with their whole bodies and big feelings.
We are researchers, friends, and family to them as much as we are their teachers. We teach that much can be learned from our every day lives and from our many cultural experiences. Crescendo places a heavy emphasis on preparing for and keeping up with their elementary school experiences with artistic creative ways of learning and those ever helpful interpersonal skills! Crescendo's discipline style is very positive and places a great deal of emphasis on honoring the children's feelings while establishing firm and loving limits. Crescendo assumes the children want to be good, and they rise to the expectation!
What is our three-years elementary interdisciplinary approach? Students at Crescendo are in two multi-age classrooms and typically spend three years with the same core teacher, and six years growing with the same friends. In multi age classes students learn with and from each other. Interdependence counts at least as much as independence as Piaget quoted. Educators at Crescendo allow students to work at their own pace and interests plus support them to celebrate one anothers progress.
Documenting & Assessment through Reflection:
We, Identify strengths and challenges by self setting goals. In order to monitor progress and improve as teachers and students, it is important to document progress overtime. Exhibits, documentaries, concerts performances, presentations before audiences and student / teacher / parent conferences help to document and assess student learning. Writing samples, structured observations also contribute to establishing a childs progress.
