Child Care Provider Description
Parkade Adventure Club meets at Parkade Elementary School, which is located at 111 Parkade Blvd. The average enrollment at Parkade Adventure Club is 24 children for morning and afternoon sessions. In addition to the Site Facilitator, there are 5 University of Missouri college students employed as Site Assistants.
Parkade Adventure Club meets in the school cafeteria. We also utilize the school's gymnasium on a daily basis. A variety of activities are offered daily, including free time outside, JOLT, which is a structured time when children can work on homework, read, use the laptop and participate in themed educational activities. Parkade's playground is large, with swings, a jungle gym, slides, tunnels, basketball goals, a large soccer field, and other playground equipment.
In the mornings, a parent or an authorized adult must initial the students in on a sign-in sheet. The sheets, printed in weekly increments, have columns for the student's arrival time and for the the initials of the person bringing the student to Adventure Club. A Site Facilitator or Site Assistant will initial in the student in the afternoon; a parent or other authorized adult must initial them out in the afternoon, noting the time that they departed.
We also use a "Where am I?" board to keep track of the students. The board has 4 categories: Playground, Cafeteria, Gym, and Not Here. It is the students' responsibility to change their own name tag when they arrive in the morning, when they come in the afternoon, and when they decide to leave one area for another. They must also inform a staff member when they leave one area for another; we utilize walkie-talkies so that we may communicate with one another and ensure a student's arrival from one area to another.
Parkade Adventure Club is a place where children have fun with their school friends in a safe, learning environment. We offer lots of choices for the children and encourage them to participate in the activities they enjoy. Some favorite choices are: games in the gym, such as Toga and Capture the Flag; any art activities like painting and collages; anything messy (creating play dough, ooblick, gak); and building activities, especially legos and blocks.
