Child Day Care Description
Two Mile Prairie Adventure Club meets at Two Mile Prairie Elementary School, which is located about 5 miles north on Z highway. The average enrollment at Two Mile Prairie Adventure Club is 36 children AM/PM. Currently, in addition to two Part-time Site Facilitator, there are 4 Site Assistants at our site. All of our staff are full time students at the University of Missouri.
Two Mile Prairie Adventure Club meets in the school gymnasium. On occasion we are granted access to the school's media center, computer lab, and art room. We are fortunate, because of our rural setting, to have a large playground and recreational facilities equipped with swings, climbers, tether balls, basketball goals. In addition to the excellent equipment we have an outdoor classroom with two gazebos and a shelter. When weather permits, one of our favorite activities is to take snack outside to eat in one of the shelters.
In the mornings, a parent or an authorized adult must initial the students in on a sign-in sheet. The sheets, printed in weekly increments, have columns for the student's arrival time and for the the initials of the person bringing the student to Adventure Club. A Site Facilitator or Site Assistant will initial in the student in the afternoon; a parent or other authorized adult must initial them out in the afternoon, noting the time that they departed.
We also use a "Where am I?" board to keep track of the students. The board has 4 categories: Playground, Cafeteria, Gym, and Home. It is the students' responsibility to change their own name tag when they arrive in the morning, when they come in the afternoon, and when they decide to leave one area for another. They must also inform a staff member when they leave one area for another; we utilize walkie-talkies so that we may communicate with one another and ensure a student's arrival from one area to another.
The staff at Two Mile Prairie Adventure Club work hard to provide a fun and exciting place for the children to come before and after school. We continually change the choices we offer for the children, and encourage them to participate in the activities they wish, and to even try some activities they might not like. Our Adventure Club favorites are: building activities (K-NEX, Legos), playing with balls in the gym, unique arts and crafts projects, clubs like "Magnificent Magnets" and "Dinosaurs" and goofing around with our awesome staff. There is also time to get homework done during JOLT 4:40-5:15 M-R. Two Mile Prairie Adventure Club provides a safe place for children to interact with one another, develop, learn, and grow.
