Preschool Description

The mission of Early Childhood Services is to provide the highest quality developmentally appropriate programs for children birth to kindergarten. The quality of life for a child and the contributions the child makes to society as an adult can be traced back to the first few years of life.
From birth to five, a child undergoes tremendous growth and change. If this period of life includes support for growth in cognition, language, motor skills, adaptive skills and social-emotional functioning, the developmental foundation for a child is laid and that child is more likely to succeed in school.
Learning begins at birth and early childhood should be included as a core component in the educational system to prepare children for success as they enter the PK-12 system. Parental involvement is essential for children to ensure success in school.
All services must be of high quality and meet all appropriate regulations and standards, including Child Care Rules and Regulations, CPP rules and Regulations, National Association for Education of Young Children Accreditation Standards, Head Start Performance Standards, Exceptional Childrens Education Act, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
Children are best served in early childhood programs that are housed in their neighborhood schools so that the educational process that is started, along with the relationships that are formed with both school staff and peers, can continue uninterrupted. Early Childhood services should be provided in partnership with the community in order to maximize resources and opportunities for children in District 11.
