Pre School Description
Childrens Cay Care Centers began in 1948 at what is now Gingerbread House. The founder was Eve Mitchell. In 1964 her husband Edgar retired from his longtime employment and together they established Jack and Jill House. It was built as a child care center to serve the Hazel Dell area. They worked together until his passing in 1979. Eve continued to manage both Gingerbread House and Jack and Jill House until her retirement in March of 1988. At that time the two centers were purchased by her daughter and son-in-law, Rosalee and Eric Johnson.
The centers were founded on Christian principles and the educational theory Guided Activity Develops Character. They continue to be operated on the same principles.
Anna Wingate has been the director of both centers since 1974.
