Pre K Description

The John Kenney Child Care Center is the fulfillment of a promise made by developer Isaac Heller to the people of Edison. In 1987, Mr. Heller, Chairman of the Board of Heller Industrial Parks, Inc., established the John Kenney Child Care Center as a non-profit corporation. It provides affordable quality care to children of employees in Heller Industrial Park as well as Edison residents and Edison employees.
Among Isaac Heller's strongest allies was the family of John and Mary Kenney. Mr. Kenney helped defeat the construction of a garbage dump and incinerator which had been slated for the site. They were the parents of nine children, five of whom were local police officers. Mr. Kenney's civic pride and love of children represented the best of our community.
It is a fitting tribute for our child care center to bear his name.
From opening day, our center has gained national attention as a model for corporate America. Articles about our center have appeared in the New York Times, Fortune Magazine and Time Magazine. Visitors, from as far away as Japan and Denmark, have come to tour our center.
John Kenney Child Care Center was rededicated on October 9, 2000 to mark its removal from its former site off Mill Road to a newly completed building a few hundred feet away. The new building, pictured above, is bigger and even better than the former site.
