Knox K8 School is located in the southeastern section of the city of San Diego in a neighborhood of single-family houses and large apartment complexes. Of the some 650 students enrolled in grades K8 for the 200809 school year (and 45 preschool students) more than half speak a language other than English. Knox operates on a single-track year-round schedule. One hundred percent of the student population receives free lunch.
We are extremely proud of the academic growth and performance of our students. In recent years wehave seen our state Academic Performance Index (API) increase nearly 150 points! During that same periodof time our API has grown from 574 to close to 750.
One of the unique qualities of our school is the support in place that foster the academic and personal success of all students. We offer a family-oriented learning environment and a strong belief that all children can learn through rigorous high-quality integrated instruction. We have also made it a high priority for our students to know and understand the fine arts. To that end every student attends at least one play or other performance each year off campus.
