Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational health nutritional social and other services to enrolled children and families.
Head Start and Early Head Start serve the child development needs of preschool children (prenatal through age five) and their families. Programs provide comprehensive services to eligible families including health child development early education and referral to community resources. No less than ten percent of enrollment is made available to children with special needs.
