Pre K Description

The Parent-Child Learning Center (PCLC) serves the infants- children up to 6 years of teenage parents attending high school, as well as those in the community. The child care program is a cooperative educational program staffed by TDC Learning Centers, Inc. & Topeka Public Schools. The various components of the program include: child care; modeling of parenting skills; parent education; counseling; and helping teens access social services and resources.
The primary goal of the Parent-Child program is that parenting teenagers continue and complete their secondary education. Families headed by a teenage mother are seven times more likely to be poor or dependent upon public assistance-the infants and children of children are at high risk for abuse and/or neglect. The Parent Child Learning Center provides opportunity to change this dismal situation. The program helps teens stay in school and provides parenting education that will decrease the risk of child abuse and neglect.
A participating member of KQRIS (Kansas Quality Rating and Improvement System) which focuses on quality improvement in early care and education.
