Preschool Philosophy
The emphasis of the curriculum is on foundational skills consistent with each childs level of development. For example, learning to work wooden inlay puzzles from left to right is a pre-reading skill. The hand/eye coordination necessary for all manipulative art and puzzle activities is a pre-writing skill. Classifying and sorting activities teach pre-math skills. And the large muscle development in movement and rhythmic experiences encourages feelings of self confidence and self worth. Although activities are well planned, flexibility in meeting each childs needs is our main concern.
Our curriculum provides a teaching topic for each session. The sequence of the topics is developmental in emphasis as teachers build foundations and plan seasonal
activities. Repetition is an important factor in teaching such concepts as colors, shapes, likenesses, differences and so forth. Success in teaching a skill or concept is seen as the
satisfaction preschoolers find in the activity. Children will vary by large degree in gaining skills and learning concepts.
